    Thanks for the info. I was missing 2 points that were not mentioned in any of the numerous guides that I read.

    1) (Some of )the older models of the E46 (pre-2000) may have the OBD II - connector (well, mine does does anyway)

    2) The OBD connector is contained within a screw cap type casing

    I was looking for the open connector under my hood (with the pac-man logo showing). Since I could not find it and noticed the connector on the drivers side I assumed I could use the trip-reset method.

    All done now anyways!

    Hi, Sorry to drag up an old post, but I have tried this method on my E46,2002 but when you turn the ignition back on the word inspection lights up with -7100 miles flashing. This number just increases with driving so presume the service interval has not been reset.

    Anyone got any ideas as to what I am doing wrong?
