Hi Ronnie, thanks for getting back to me. I followed these steps previously but still no joy. I get the feeling that the doors are trying to open after this bit, "led flashes slowly for 10 seconds" but failing to do so. I don't think it's seriuos as it has only happen since the battery was drained but for the life of me I just can't figure out the problem.

I though it was a bit strange that it was listed like that, but that's taken straight from a print out

i have the same problem on my 2003 320d M-sport. i have been told that it is the Body Control Module. BMW say it will cost £251 for the part and they charge £116 per hour labour. I have brought the carsoft 6.5 software and reader from ebay to do the diagnostics myself. the module is located behind the glove box. it has 3 plugs in it. white thing (in my car) about 8 inches long. they also say it will need coding to the car but i'm sure they just mean the key needs to be recoded which as you know takes less than 1 min.

The way this is written down is mad. to simplify

    1. get in the car and close all the doors, boot and bonnet.
    2. put key in ignition.
    3. give it a quick flick on and off.
    4. remove key from ignition.
    5. whilst holding the unlock button press the lock button 3 times. TIP! do not rush you have 10secs to press the button 3 times. you can press and hold the button in for a moment to ensure it is done properly.
    6. your locks should lock and then unlock.
    7. you have 30seconds to repeat steps 5 and 6 for any other keys that you have.

neil, have followed these steps a few times and to no avail. You get the feeling that the buttons are trying to come up but nothing physically happens.
