Yet another bloody fault has crept into my cars life. I unlocked the car with the keyfob and the passenger door failed to unlock (only two doors to worry about in my case and 50 percent of them are playing up). It will lock from the keyfob, but not unlock. Similarly, the door locks when the car starts moving (as it is set up to do). It's strange how annoying this fault is. Just wanting to get something out of the passenger side entails having to lean over and double pull the handle to release the door. How much do I wish BMW had put a keylock on both doors. I had an auto electrician look into it, and after stripping the door panel off he has diagnosed a faulty catch. For reference, my sparky did 20 years working for BM and specialises in them. Classic minis are his other speciality for some reason.
Anyway, the part is costing around 80 quid, along with a new liner at 15 pounds (ish), then add his charge at 35 pounds an hour for doing the job. All in all, an expensive irritation.
Thankfully, it is being done under warranty. One thing worthy of note here though. As soon I find the time to read through my diary to find how much time I have wasted sat at the car dealers while they fooked up yet another simple task, I am going to be posting a very long rant about how shite the guys I bought the car from are when it comes to rectifying faults. Not just on the warranty, but on the car as they give it to you.
