Okay, so i finally got carsoft running (barely) and it would only run DME scan, which it did and i got the above code (65 camshaft angle pulse generator)...

after reading up on various forums it seems its the camshaft sensor.... BUT WHICH ONE?!? apparently on the 323 there are 4!! of these sensors! 2 opn intake, 2 on exhaust... is this true?

how do i find out whether it is intake or exhaust?

I also read that the vanos could be causing this problem (boy i hope not!!)... so i will start with camshaft sensor...

if there are only 2 sensors altogether, and i have read some forums wrong then i will buy intake and exhaust... and replace them both (i'd rather only replace 1)

how can i find out whether it is intake or exhaust? (shouldve bought the peake :'( )

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-CAMSHAFT-S...3A1|240%3A1318

is this a good deal? I dont know how to find out BMW part prices in UK :(

Its also a fair mission to my nearest BMW parts dealer :(

all help is appreciated at this early stage!

the loss of power and random stalling really is doing my nut in!

Well Ste, you finally got the software working and delved yourself straight into that problem we all suggested....
Ok, on a serious note, you have 1 intake and 1 exhaust camshaft sensor. See HERE...no. 5 is your exhaust, and no. 18 is your intake. And yes, the Peake would have told you which one... Anyway, the link you posted is the exhaust sensor and it is dead easy to replace using a 5mm allen key. The intake is a bit more work, but not that difficult either. IIRC, error 65 on carsoft is the intake.

You have Siemens MS43 IIRC, code 65 is camshaft inlet sensor......
code 18 is signal, Exhaust camshaft sensor

I have all the codes for your vehicle should you need them

Just post up any number you encounter for the engine codes and I will look them up, they are all on paper in my ring binder
