I have V reg 1999 530d estate and have been suffering an intermittent electric fault. I took it to my local independent garage and everything worked fine.

Today it currently manifests itself as clock (not visible), indicators work but don't show on dashboard, cd player not visible on dashboard.

Also the auto levelling suspension warning light has now come on. It did this 3 weeks ago and then went off next time I got in car.

    Central locking not working.

    Everything else ok.

    Any ideas anyone.

Ideally it needs the codes read, a good independent with a good scanner should be able to read the binnacle/speedo ECU,the self levelling suspension ECU, and the central locking.
Is the central locking also intermittent with the other items?

Well I've got the car back and the man thinks at the second attempt it was an earthing problem, particularly with the wiring to the tailgate.

There were a number of faults on ecu which were cleared first time he looked at it but this didn't make any difference which is why we went down the earthing route.

I am now going to give it a two week test. I'll let you know how it goes.

I'll let you know the outcome.
