Hi guys, I have a 318i se 1998 and am currently stuck in France. Always had to jiggle the wheel to start the car but last week in a supermarket car park the key turned to the ignition 'on' position and just jammed. Fortunately the steering lock was off and I managed to start the car with a push and drive to my friends house, having to stall the car to stop it running. Panicing I have ordered a secondhand replacement ignition lock and key from the UK which should arrive in a day or two, but having read several threads here it seems that is not much use because of the EWS system. I don't have much money so I am asking if there is any simple/cheap way round my problem? Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated, thank you

:-(((( Good news..the part arrived......bad news it's not ews compatible. Can I try to remove the red switch from behind the barrel and then just use a screwdriver to start/stop the engine? (and how do I do that?) If so I presume all will function if I leave the key in the broken barrel........grabbing at straws now :-((( Thanks

OK..found the grub screws, they were sealed under a plastic bit. Got it off and can now start & stop the engine....with or without the key in the barrel...does that mean I can now fit the replacement even if it is an older part? You are a star :-)))) Thank you
