I have recently put a 1996 s50b32 3.2 evo into my September 1994 M3, 3.0
The evo engine was running fine when removed and diagnostic read with no faults, the engine came complete with harness, DME, EWS modual, transponder, key chip and antenner ring.
Engine all in connected up and earths from engine to chassis checked,
Next was to wire up the Ews II
EWS II wired in, EWS modual to permanent live (checked), and earthed
EWS transponder and EWS modual connected via blue wire.
EWS transponder connected to ignition live and earthed.
EWS modual connected to DME via thin green wire, (PIN 7 in 20 pin plug)
Key chip secured inplace.
Can here the EWS modual and starter relays clicking when key hits P2
Turn key in ignition, lights come on, fuel pump primes, engine cranks and then fires up, 2 secs later engine dies. Injectors and spark looses power? Dispair
To add to this current confusion!!
The car starts and the dies even when the EWS II modual does not have any power to it, which I thought was very strange?
How can it start if EWS II is not wired up
The green wire going out of the EWS modual was also live after key had been turned, is this correct? Did modual get its power from here?
crank / cam sensors all checked and working fine, if crank disconnected engine wont fire, new cam senors purchased and swapped around, no difference.
My latest thought
Could the EWS I originaly installed on s50b30 be interfering? I have read the PDF on the EWS series, and on the EWS I the starter immobilisation relay required signal from
the door lock mechanisum & GM
the board computer, (the OBC)
The DME - through pin 7 on the round 25pin plug. (Thought on this, would the fact that this original DME is no longer there be upsetting the EWS I system.
An added feature of EWS I drive away protection system was a reading from ther Engine Speed senor, on the 6 cylinder models if EWS did not have all correct signal it would cut power to injectors and ignition spark, was the car got over 1200 rpm.
When the engine starts the revs just about get above this level before it dies...
Can EWS I be removed / disconnected?
I also had diagnostics run
00156, DME cant alter engine torque
00066, Alarm - could this be issue, with fuel cut off
00073, Throttle valve potentiometer ( throttle position sensor)
Also when diagnostics run, we inserted a bulb into the injecter rail power socket for number 1, it lit up intialliy indicating power, then went out after a few secs,
any help / thjoughts much appreciated.
