    Hi
l have just purchased a replacement climate control unit for my 1996 328i as the original stopped working. I still have the same fault.
I realise it could be another faulty unit although l was assured that it is fully working but was wondering what else could be causing the fault.
l am aware of the circuit board capacitor fault.
The original unit has part no 8379521 whereas the replacement is 8368169.
Is there another common fault l should be looking for?
    Cheers for any advice.

    Same as before...

comes on when it feels like it
goes off when it wants to
but does work and control the heat/fan/air con when it does decide to switch itself on

i realise there is the capacitor change solution, l was wondering if it could be something else instead as the unit should be in full working order (but of course it may not be)

any advice would be great many thanks....

Have you come across the final stage resistor problem yet?

thanks for your reply - l suppose it could be this resistor faulty although the fan speed doesn't fluctuate
in fact the symptoms are clearly the same as the capacitor change fault
any other ideas before l go in and change the cap on the pcb board
    thanks jrr

take apart you contol unit and from the lcd board to the other its a wide flat cable of about 9 wires on my old e36 these broke (it wont be an obvious break on the wire it took me bout 4 days to find this problem just take it apart plug it in the fiddle with the wire and see if that make any differece) which stopped the climate control i just replace these wires my self then was all workin fine again.
