    Hello everyone.

This has probably been done to death, but im stuck.

    I have a 1997 E36 328i Touring.

None of the power windows work on my E36. They used to be fine & now they have stopped.

I have ediabas software & the correct cable - I can read every part of the car. When I engage each electric door window motor in turn, I can make the windows all go up and down but engaging the switches does nothing. I have replaced all the fuses as a precaution but got nowhere. I have a wiring diagram for the car, and alll the switches have 12v. Could this be an earthing problem from the switches - i dont know. Please help before I completely go insane!

    Thanks in advance

Have you checked for power at the fuse(s)? Also have you checked for earth at the switch(es)?

There is a earth point under the carpet IIRC.

Hi Ronnie, Thanks for your help. Before I start ripping the seats out - was it near side or off side where the earthing point is? The earthing point for evey circuit to do with the power windows is on the wiring diagram, labelled as point x498, but its very vague as to its location. one arrow points to the gear lever area, the other looks like its pointing at a cross member underneath a seat....

Does your car have a "comfort relay"? In former BMW the power windows are controlled by a "comfort relay", when this relay fails the windows don´t work. it´s very easy to repair this relay. I understand that in newer models the power windows are controlled by the computer.
