I know there are some experts out there and I need some advice. I have an e36 320i auto 1995 with an ecu problem. I have sourced another siemens 5wk9018 ecu, but I have been advised by BMW that it would need re-programming before it can be used. A BMW spare parts specialist however advised me that as long as the numbers match and as long as the replacement is from the same model and is from an auto vehicle, it can be fitted directly to the car without re-programming. My e36 does not have a
transmitter key, but a standard key which operates central locking and ignition switch.
Thanks for your time and info: maxarthur:

The immobiliser will need to be synced, but that's about it.
