hello hope you can help me, i have a bmw 1992 318is m44 engine e36 and it has been sat on my drive for a little while and now want to get it back on the road, the car starts fine every time but i have noticed that the battery without the engine running is at 12.11 volts and when i turn the engine over it kicks to 13v. but as soon as i turn any accessory on then the voltage drops, it does not drop then re gain to 13.5/14.2.

i think with the heater on full and the headlights on, the battery terminals drop to 11.2v is this going to kill my battery and is it the alternators fault???

    many thanks
    martin

There's an alternative. There's always a third way, and it's not a combination of the other two ways. It's a different way

are you sure your 318is is the M44? I thought it would have been the M4218B. Try taking the battery off and charging it on a charger. your looking for around 14volts to start the engine. just check using a multimeter exactly what power is coming from the alternator but be careful.

Give the battery a trickle charge, check your alternator belt for wear and tension. What mileage is on the car?? if high could be possible the alternator needs a reconditioning, but rule out belt and battery first as these are cheaper

    Hope this helps
