My starter motor seemed to fail the other day and then all my warning lights on the dash lit up like the starship enterprise and when I turned my lights on and other stuff the engine started to die and indicators and stuff started going haywire, the traction control and abs light were on and with the car acceleration dieing I thought it may be the DME as my pals car had similar symptoms when his failed.

I fitted another starter motor and the problem persisted, my pal checked all the fuses and relays. I'm pretty much stuck now as what to do next, I have someone coming plugged it into a computer later to see what error codes its bringing up and I'm going to un-wire my stereo as it had a loose wire in the back knocking the stereo on and off. My pal sais the stereo is also wired into the cig lighter for a live feed.

Anyone had any experience of similar problems or have any idea what may be the cause. Thanks in advance

That just sounds like a flat battery.

Yep, and if there are more problems, it may be the crank sensor, but see about code reading first.

I think on an iS, it'll be at the back of the engine by the starter.

Apart from 2 knock sensors which will be halfway up the block, you won't see anything else obvious plugged in so look about 3-4 inches up from the sump gasket near the back.

The other possible position is on the front at the edge of a toothed main pulley that runs the drivebelts, but I think the rear is the one.

    ***UPDATE***

Un-wired the stereo although it was working fine, put my pals battery on. No warning lights or indicators and stuff going mad etc but still won't start off the starter motor, I had to bump it. Seemed to run perfect and no asc, abs lights etc come up on the dash. Strange :S
The codes are being read at half 6 so will update then.

    ***UPDATE 2***

I never had the codes read as the chap didn't have the correct adaptor BUT when I put my battery back on all the lights on the dash went mental again and the abs asc lights etc so the battery must be fooked as it was all fine with the other battery on.

My mechanic pal reckons I may have burnt my starter motor wire out so tomoz I will charge up a decent battery I got and bridge a wire from the starter to the battery. Codes are also being read at dinnertime, fingers and toes crossed

    Update 3

Had the car on 2 computers today, 1st bosch computer wouldn't find any codes at all even the pretensioner as the wire is severed under the seat and should register. 2nd computer said there was a permanent 12 volt live feed no error code. Dash light and asc abs lights on with the good battery.
I've ordered a 2nd hand dme off ebay and when it comes im going to have it aligned and hope its at fault. Theres enough cranking power in the battery its just not working.
