1995 328i heated mirrors dont seem to heat up. I believe they are supposed to automatically heat up when the engines running and the demister is on. Well everything else works, ie demister inside the car and all the controls for the mirrors but they dont heat up. I deliberately waited until today when the car had ice on it to see if they would clear. Any suggestions please?

they are just a stick on pad that attaches to the back of the mirror.
my bet is the mirrors have been replaced at some time and the pad has come unstuck...or the cheapskate that put the new mirrors on didnt specify heated when he bought them.
you'll need to remove the glass to check...should pop out with 2 screwdriver and some cloth for protection (2 pairs of hands would be good for this )
    what i've felt,what i've known
never shined through in what i've shown.

Or you could check your fuses.

Or you could check your fuses
Is there a seperate fuse for the heated part of the mirrors?

Check fuse no.'s 6, 23, 24. If these are ok, then pop out the mirrors and use a volt meter to check that voltage is coming to the heating wires.

Thanks very much for your replies. I checked the fuses, all ok, i removed the mirror lense and.......no pad or wires. So I guess at some point the mirrors have been replaced with non heated ones. Im assuming that being a 328 the wiring would be there for heated mirrors and that i can either buy the pads or the lense with it already fitted. Or am I wrong?

Have a look at this DIY to confirm weather you do or do not have heated mirrors first.

Thanks for that. Ive looked at both mirrors and the lenses dont have the electrical connectors on them and there is no sign of any wiring so either the car didnt come with heated mirrors (Doubtfull) or they have been replaced at some point. Oh well, looks like im just going to have to live with it but thanks for all your help.

I did see this thread but didn't reply because all the wiring diagrams I have for your car do not show heated mirrors, so I thought I might be wrong, but it looks like it doesn't have them after all. It certainly dosen't show them being part of the rear window circuit.

Well thanks for taking the time to look anyway. Its surprising that the car has central locking, climate control etc but not heated mirrors
