Hi guys, strange problem has developed with my E34.

Battery up until now has been absolutely fine, no signs of slow turning over in the morning etc, and ive always been able to have my stereo on for a good hour or so and still start the car with no signs of battery issues.

Came to the car Saturday morning and only the drivers door opened which seemed strange. Got in, turned the key and nothing. Dash lights were on but dim, and i could hear relays clicking over erratically. Got a mate out with a battery booster and it fired straight up but was running very lumpy for a few minutes like a couple of cylinders were missing. After a few minutes it settled down, so i turned the engine off and restarted it as a test. Fired up straight away. I put it down to accidentally leaving the stereo on overnight, and continued to use the car all day with no issues. Went out sunday night and again had the stereo on for a while without the engine running, no problems. Monday morning, again no problems getting the little'un to school and back, same in the evening when doing another taxi run.

Didnt use the car yesterday, todat completely dead again. Didnt leave the front on the stereo so i know its not that. Tested the battery with a multimeter and its sitting at 8.2v. Also tested after the fuseable link with same results so i know its not that. Earth from battery to body is fine also. I have 2 amps in the boot but these dont fire up unless the stereo is running, and ive had my boot built out looking for loose wires etc.

So could it be the battery even though its been fine between these two incidents? Im hoping to get someone to come and jump it today so i can nip out and have the battery tested, in the meantime anything else is should check?

    Thanks in advance!

    Gav

with the engine running put a multimeter across the battery terminals and see what voltage you get it should be 14.4v or there abouts

A right, easy as that then lol, will give it a go mate, ta. Also going to try a parasitic drain test if that checks out ok and battery tests fine.

Ok went to the local motorfactors and bought a new battery, they tested the old one and come up knackered. New one is somewhat smaller then the old one but was assured it would be fine. Fits it, and straight away im getting the hazard lights doing a strange flashing pattern, evenb without the ignition on. Had to pull the relay/fuse to get it to stop. Is the relay knackered or is it some kind of warning as its a definate pattern (flash-flash-miss-flash-flash-miss). Car runs fine though.

    Ideas? lol
    Meh....
