They work on the same principal - The radiator is like a long-ish, vertical pole with a magnet around it. When it has enough water in it, the magnet floats at the top of that pole, and obviously, when the water is low, the magnet moves down and the sensor picks up on it and tells CC about it. The biggest problem, is these can get gunked up, and stick.

The screen wash is a horizontal sensor, and the magnet floats in the water, up against the sensor - When the water runs low, the magnet drops away from the sensor, telling CC it's low. And again, these can get gunked up, and that gunk stops the magnet getting close to the sensor.

The only thing I can think of with yours flashing up occasionally when booting it, is the water is moving around in the bottle, and theres gunk on the magnet, which is stopping it getting fully in contact with the sensor, but enough to keep the CC happy, and when the water moves about in the bottle, it's pushing the magnet away just a little bit more and CC thinks it's low. Maybe just a clean up with solve it ?

    Worth a shot, it's free

Just so we are all clear there are several versions of the MID (Multi-Information Display) or OBC (On-Board Computer)...

    1) Clock & Outside Temp (MID) - Usually referred to as the "7 Button OBC" -This doesn't have Check Control (CC)

    2) Basic Check Control (MID) - Usually referred to as the "8 Button OBC" - As the name suggests this has CC but doesn't have the outside temp.

    3) Check Control with Outside Temp (MID) - Usually referred to as the "11 Button OBC" - As the name suggests this has both CC and outside temp.

    4) On-Board Computer without CC (OBC) - Usually referred to as the "18 Button OBC" but on the particular vehicle the additional CC sensors and control module are not present. If you were being accurate/pedantic you could argue that this should be called the "17 Button OBC" as the CC button does nothing but activate all the display elements.

    5) On-Board Computer with CC (OBC) This is the true "18 Button OBC" on which everything, including CC is present.

As the OBC outputs to the CC light in the clocks, and the OP has said the light illuminates and goes out after about 15seconds, I assume that he has the full OBC with CC !
