i thinks you would be looking to pay 250 300 quid mite beloads less now it had just come out when i got mine depending if you want all the features and if they need additional bits also as for reliability issues every single thatchem catagory Q which is the new evaluation for tracking products uses gps and gsm cobra trak Q rac trackstar ect apart from tracker they use a land base radio system and even though tracker fit locators in all police traffic cars and helicopters the car or helicopter must be within 3 miles of the car before they get any signal they dont tell you that when you buy it with the autowatch system you can text the car to immobilise it then locate it the car will be alot easier to find when its not moving about the autowatch device comes with a good areial that can be hidden in the a pillar so no reception probs also it can be removed and refitted when you sell your motor

You can buy PIR sensors with SIM card holders which will text you when they note a movement in front of them. A simple pay as you go SIM with a tenner on it will last ages.

You can use them to put in a lock up garage to store a car, and you'll get a text as soon as the garage is broken into - or in your case, when you leave it in the footwell and arm it, then if the car is broken into you'll get a text straight away.

why not you have a much better chance of getting it back than if you have nothing at all and lets face we all have a spare mobile laying around in a drawer somewhere with a pay and go sim in it and its not difficult to wire in a secondary cig lighter socket
wot the hell do you have to lose

Am I not right in saying they are not very accurate? Like a 1km radius circle and it could be anywhere in it? I have google maps on my phone and it doesnt pinpoint where I am. I think weak signals make it even worse. When I'm in my house it says I'm in a field about 1km away if not more :(

As others have said they aren't very accurate to be honest. I had the same idea as you and tried this service http://www.childlocate.co.uk/ and it gave me a grid of about a mile square where it said the phone was. The centre of the grid was where I know a mobile phone mast is.
