    Hi Guys im new,

i have a 2000 E46 318i , 4 door saloon. had it 3 years now and a few months ago i noticed that the car would not always unlock when i pushed the button. now im lucky if i can get it open after 30 mins of trying!!!!

the car locks no problem! the alarm engages and disengages with the unlock and lock buttons, no problem. the boot opens from the remote no problem. But its like the unlocking of the central locking is jamming or stuck on unlocking only???

I can open the driver door manually and get in, i just cant take passengers!!?? the child lock in the car is the dame deal - it will lock, but wont unlock.

it seems form reading elsewhere where in this forum that the module is gone???

You're certainly thinking along the right lines when mentioning the module. If you have a diagnostic scan performed on the vehicle then it will confirm your suspicions

i got a bosch garage near me, il pop along tomorrow, think it shouls only be about £40

any idea how much a module costs to replace and install (approx)?? is it something you can do yourself? ive fixed stereo systems, rads, brakes etc in cars (no expert but...)

The module has to be coded so it's not the problem of fitting it that will be expensive, it's the cost of the module and then coding it to the car that's pricey.

My touring module worked fine in my coupe and vice versa despite one having 2 doors and the other having 4. I had to do this to eliminate a fault I had with my coupe. Turned out to be a fuse that couldn't decide if it wanted to be broken or not (hairline split through the fuse)

i called a couple of garages and all of them said to change the battery? but this battery is the rechargabel type of fob - il have to cut it open?

things is what i dont understand is if tis the battery they why doesnt the child lock inside the car unlock either?

i was told then to try reprogramming them which has now gone wrong.

i went up to the car tho now and it unlocked and locked on first try several times then stopped unlocking.

i put the key in and unlocked manually and all the locks opened. then once it stopped unlocking, it would only unlock the drivers door - anyone any ideas? cos the garage wants to charge me £70 plus vat for the diagnostic!!!

I've posted the programming info in your other thread(Key fob programming gone wrong), try keeping the problem to one thread though or it may get difficult to keep up with the problem and work done.

I would suggest finding another garage who are cheaper and who can read the codes, after you have re-programmed your key.

HI ronnie thanks - (sorry about the double threads)

i will try and find a cheaper place tomorrow

the problem with the fob is, it was already working. i did the procedure exactly as you said and NOW it doesnt work. I tried it again and it still doesnt work ;(((

One garage told me to change the battery then i realised that they are recharging ones, so i didnt, then another garage told me to try reporamming and now im here ;(( i luckily have one key still working. any ideas?

when you say turn ignition on and then off, do you mean to the first turn, 2nd, or to start the car then turn it off?

its definate im going to go to a garage now, but i would really like ot get my second key working again - mind you this will have to be reprogrammed when i get the new module anyway right? if it is the module ofcourse

when you say the module and programming are expensive, how much approximately (in your opinion ofcourse) am i looking at?
