Genuine xenons have there own control unit in car and will have to be coded to car when fitted.

    Hi.

Just in case you concern yourself with legalities, if a car in the UK has HID lights fitted, the car must also have self levelling headlights (or suspension) and headlight washers too. All BMW's with Xenon headlights are self levelling with washers.

I'm not sure if this is something that may get picked up on an MOT test?

Yes most people are probably aware of this as it gets done to death on lots of other threads on this topic.

During a MOT they only check the beam pattern and a lot of people tend to get away with it, however the traffic cops can pull you and do you for them.

The thing people also forget is that because these are not standard, they are a modification that should be declared to the insurance company and if not then your techinically running about with no insurance (again an offence - some traffic units have enforced this before).

You also run the risk, in the event of an accident someone claiming that your headlights dazzeled/blinded them, an investigation then takes place and your car is found to be fitted with after market HIDs/Xenons and your done by the law. Insurance company fail to stump up and your well and truly stuffed!

You can't fail them on a MOT for having Xenons fitted but no level control. There is nothing in the book about it.

So nowt to worry about there, as for the cops, may be a different story as they go by the Road Vehicles (Construction and Use) Regulations.

You can weld a huge long bolt to the wing and we can't fail it, but the police can have you over it.

Has anyone successfully converted from standard halogens to xenon using a conversion kit?

If so which kit did you use and can you provide details of how to install please?
