    Can this be done easily?

I have checked a few of the other postings but they all seem to be 'upgrades of obc' not completely new installations.

my 99 e36 323i sport touring currently has a poxy little clock where the obc 'could' be. I was just wondering whether the 99 e36 were 'pre wired' in effect and is it as simple as just getting hold of a unit and slotting it in?
if so which one will work? 18 button or 11 button etc?

if not...................................i'm taking my ball and going home!!!!

I have heard they are a nightmare to wire in if you don't originally have one, Because, the washer bottle has a level sensor for a start, so that needs wiring in, and there's more that I can't remember off hand

It would be easier and cheaper to get a e36 with one fitted

I want to do the same.

Can the basic 7 button computer with just the clock and outside temperature readout be simply wired in at all?

    Thanks

You will need to fit an outside temperature sensor first. The wiring is not there either

I've been offered the temperature tenser for a tenner and I know where to get the 7 button computer. I will just have to make sure I get all the parts I need before starting.

What else would I need to go with that to get it working?

    Thanks

    Hi

First post so hi everyone :-)

I am currently trying to do this on an E36 325 tds which just has the silly clock so i bought a minging 325tds se which has the fuel 18 button fuel computer and cruise if its any help or if anyone is interested i will post here how it goes.

To answer one of the posters the temp sensor is only 2 wires a brown (earth and a brown/white stripe) the brown/white stripe goes directly to the obc

The other wires as far as i have got coming from the 2 multi plugs on the back of the OBC as follows

blue/black to (i think lighting control module plug behind glovebox)
green/blue stripe to multi connector under fuse box
green/black to multi connector under fuse box
red/white stripe/yellow hoop to multi connector under fuse box

will report back when i have the rest of them sussed

    hope this helps
