    hi there

    was wondering if anyone can help me out with this i recently brought a bmw e46 compact 2001 plate for some strange reason only the rev dial and temperture dial seem to be working my petrol dial moves when switched on but stays on fuel and moves down when switched off and my mph needle doesnt work at all does any one know what could be wrong?

    Do a binnacle test, Hold down the mileage reset button with the ignition off, turn the ignition key to position 1, Wait for TEST to appear and then release reset button, watch as the binnacle does a self test.

    If gauges move then they are fine

    ok thanks ronnie and if they dont move what could be the problem? also if they do move but still continue as normal what does that also mean?

    Thanks for the info mate im a real blond when it come to these sort of things

    If they don't move then either a plug is disconnected or you have knackered clocks.

    If they do move then you have a wiring or sender problem regarding the fuel level
