hi guys,im new to this site but i have a problem that is doing my head in!

i bought a lovely bmw e39 530d sport touring last saturday to replace my pain in the ass volvo v50. its superb and everything i hoped it would be and has run faultlessly all this week until tonight......
i was driving along and noticed the stereo facia suddenly went blank apart from the time clock, which then also disappeared although the radio was still on for a while but then went off.the indicator tell tale lights on the dash also dont light up but the indicators are still working and also the main beam tell tale isnt working.i also noticed that the light on the dash for the self levelling suspension has now come on.
car still runs fine and when i start the car up again the radio (sound only) comes on for about 10 seconds then goes off.

i really hope someone can point me in the right direction as i sold my volvo due to stupid electrical faults!!

    help please....and thanks in advance.
    jason

Sounds much like the ignition switch failing which causes random electrical weirdness-the stereo often being affected. A very common E39 fault & not too tricky or expensive to fix.

yes,had a quick look around the site earlier and the ign switch seems to be a common issue.maybe my car already had something going on before i bought it as the battery was flat and the garage put a new battery on it for me-wonder if something was draining it.
i think ill get an ign switch ordered. are the aftermarket ones any good or should i just buy a genuine one?

    I'd recommend genuine-around £60 from BMW.
