Hi all, first post, and hopefully in the correct section??

I bought a 318ti a week or so ago and occasionally when idling, rather than the rpm staying constant, the engine seems to 'rev' itself every few seconds, like it's going through some sort of cycle. does anyone have an idea what this might be? it normally happens when the engine is still pretty cold.

I've just started working through the haynes manual maintenance schedule and was wondering if there was something i should look at first.

    thanks in advance
