I was just wondering if there was anyone in the Middlesbrough area who could try clearing my error code for me? Added the bypass unit and the light is still on. Don't know if it needs re-clearing before it would go off. Got my mot re-test on Saturday and it failed because of it previously.

Sounds like the old seat occupancy trick my last bmw did this my mot was due too so i got a bypass sensor it did the same sort of worked for a week then light came back so took it to my garage the light would clear when on diagnostic but soon as you restarted the car it would come back on so in the end i bought 2 new front seats off ebay for £100 as my driver side was badly ripped anyway i took them both out replaced both seats reconnected and everything was fine sold my old seats for £80 so only cost me £20 in the end to sort the problem out with the passenger seat which had the faulty sensor

my garage guy said its so common he sees bmws all the time with this problem it may be down to lifting the seat up and down all the time as mine was a coupe whearas in the convertible the base doesnt move only the upper seat parts lifts forward my garage guy offered to strip the seat and replace the occupancy sensor but he said its time comsuming,he ain done one for a while and said just repace the whole seat

Im not even sure if those bypass things are any good as it may not allow your airbag to go off at all im not sure if it breaks the circuit

Just get the occupancy mat coded out, that will leave the passenger airbag live and armed all the time.

Cheers man. I have tried the bypass unit today and still no luck but I haven't cleared the codes yet. My mate is doing it tomorrow for me. Hopefully it will work even if it's long enough to pass the mot, got bucket seats to go in so will get all new bits when I put them in. It's a total pain in the butt!

they complete the circuit the ecu then thinks the seat is occupied and will fire the airbag if you crash

You mention the triggered seat tensioner? What exactly does this look like and the position of it? Many thanks for any help. Oh 2000 E46 saloon.
