Hi, l have a 2007 E92 Coupe 320i automatic. It was involved in an accident and i am in the final stages of the repair but i cant get it to start.
It dosnt seem to be getting power to the starter motor. I testd it at the jump start point and it wasnt geting power, Bmw told me after an accident it breaks the circuit from the battery to the engine and i need to replace both cables? (also not sure why there is 2 cabels as they both come from battery and go to jumpstart point?)
Surely theY will be desinged to break at a particular point and should be fixxable?
However for now i used jump leads to miss out this section and took the power to the jump start point, which then took power to the starter but it still will not start??
This is where i am stuck is there anything else that the car would have disconnected in the accident for safety?

    Would much appreciate any help

    Thanks David.

Ok, ive sorted the power goin to the starter motor. As far as i can see there is a plug that goes onto the positive connection of the battery that is the same as the air bag connector. It looks as though when the air bag is deployed the same signal is sent to the battery and couses the connection to break. so i have corrected that.
Which still leaves me with the problem that when i push the start button it dosnt start. There is now power getting to the starter but if i put the tester on the end of the other wire(the thin wire) it is not getting any signal??

Nothing lol. I push the start button and the dials move then return to the off postion. The starter motor dosnt click or anything but it wouldnt because it isnt getting the signal for some reason?
The only way the engine will turn over is if i manually connect a live to the starter. However it hasnt actually started yet but think its because the batteries low, its charging now and will try again later.

P.s Bmw wanted £93!! for the 12inches of power cable and the fuse that connects it to the battery! But thats that problem out the way anyway.

Most likely a flat battery if the cable has been replaced, the airbag system fires a pyrotechnic charge that breaks the positive battery cable(Safety Terminal) that goes to the starter, power is still provided to the interior e.t.c for windows but no starter power, the locks will usually pop up and hazards come on in a crash as well.

If it still won't turn over after charging the battery then get the airbag codes read and cleared and give it a go

I fixxed the cabel that supplys the starter etc and tested it and the starter is now getting power.
But, if i put the tester onto the small wire that goes to the starter assumably from the switch when i push the start button it is not recieving any signal?

I have still to get the airbag module reset as im waiting on the electricain updating his software but he said it wouldnt affect the car starting. But should get that fixxed at weekend so we'll see.

Have you checked the fuses "just" to be on the safe side?

Yeah i checked ALL the fuses which was a pain in the arse! to be honest.

Im not sure if its something to do with the immobiliser. I need to wait on the electricain getting the software updated. I think it might be something to do with this or the saftey features in the car but everyone at BMW has told me it should start, ive tried both keys locking and unlocking etc but nothing.
