Almost a dozen times in the last few months, my BMW soft-top has opened by itself when parked on my street outside my house.

The roof can only be operated by open and close buttons on the panel in front of the gear lever, and I always lock the vehicle.

Fortunately there has been no theft or weather damage when it's happened so far, but I really need to get this sorted out now.

Sometimes it has opened all the way, sometimes only the windows open, and a few days ago I even found the the roof suspended halfway through the opening mechanism.

Anyone know what the problem might be? Some sort of signal interference which makes the roof mechanism start? I've done a few searches but can't find anyone who has had this problem before.

I certainly wouldn't rule out signal interference - when my dad had his 2006 5 Series Touring, when he locked/unlocked his car he would set off the alarm on nearby Range Rovers, upto around 20 yards away. And with certain other cars, their remote locking could make my dad's 5-series windows wind halfway down. Strange.

Maybe the remote system needs to reprogrammed or something.

It would also be a good idea to get the fault codes read for the body control module, there may be something stored there that helps point you in the right direction.
