I'm heading into my first winter with my car, and so far *touch wood* everything's going ok... the elephant in the room of handling on ice/snow I'll leave for another time, and to keep me awake at night
I've noticed over the past few months a niggle that i'd like to hear opinions on from you guys.
Basically I'll be driving along and out of the blue it'll pop up errors like the following
- Indicator light has failed
- fog light has failed
I've had this happen most of the time when whatever light that is described isn't even being operated on at the time.. ie. I'm not indicating, or my fog lights aren't on. I'm presuming it has some testing electronics that it runs intermittently which is reporting the failure.
When i first got this error i was nervous and when i arrived at my destination i tried to test it, yet couldn't find a problem with the lights in question.
Since then i've noticed that mostly I can actually activate the system described and it typically then will clear the warning, including the ! in the front instrument panel window. It makes me assume that it's actually able to detect the light is working, and therefore clears the error.
My question is, is this something to worry about? Is it just a bit of an issue that these systems have occasionally, or does perhaps the diagnostic system need some potential fixing.
I've asked a couple of friends with similar 3 series cars of similar age, and none of them have experienced this problem.
The only thing i can presume is relevant is that i had the battery replaced at a local specialist a few months ago, with a Bosch battery, not a BMW one. I was told it was properly configured and coded etc, but wondered if this could be a cause.
Cheers in advance!
