As the title says I have a phone charger for my iPhone which plugs into the cigarette lighter socket. It works fine but I want to run a charger cable to the central cubby hole that doesn't need to be plugged into the cigarette lighter hole and have wires on the dash. I'm a neat freak!!

Can you just scotchlock the +and- to the feed wires of the cigarette wiring behind the dash with an in line fuse and job done?

Is the cigarette lighter ignition fed? I'm not bothered, no I DON'T want it live when the cars off, as the phone is always in my pocket and I don't want any flat batteries.

I have bought a spare one from eBay to chop etc to do this so any advice much appreciated!!

    yes this is relativly easy,

I imagine you have a tray in the center consol? you can pop it out, pull it at either side,

you will need to drill a hole to get your wires through,

Now im guessing you have the BT fitted? or the wireing will be there,

with the tray pulled out you should be able to find the phone kit wireing loom, it will be tucked down the back in that hole towards the back more

Use a volt meter on the pin block to find the SL and GND and scotch lock into those wires, job done

Thanks for the reply. Yeah running the wiring is no problem it's really just connecting the wiring.
Re having BT- do you mean Bluetooth?? If so then no I don't have it. Where is the wiring for the phone kit tucked if it's not fitted? I've had the centre consol out and didn't notice any unused wiring connector blocks tucked away.
Would it not be easier to remove the ashtray and splice into the wiring at the rear of the cigarette lighter? At least I know where that is!

Anybody know for sure that the cigarette lighter is ignition live and not permanent live??

    Thanks for your comments

the way to find out if the cig lighter is SL or PL is to try the cig lighter with the engine off

AS for BT (bluetooth) the loom should still be there, with the tray out, the bottom of the centerconsol is flat, follow to the rear and there is a bit missing, it will be tucked down there it might be wrapped in foam

the only advantage of using these wires, is they are right there where you want them there is deffinatly a SL

    Right silly question time!
If I attached the wiring to the cigarette lighter which we think isn't ignition switched, but don't have a phone attached would that cause ANY drain??

I usually only use my car every 2 weeks so I don't want to take any chances with it not starting!
When I get round to taking the centre consol out I'll check if the cigarette is ignition or permanent live!

If the cig lighter is an SL with anything attached or plugged in it will not drain the battery,

Check if it is a SL buy pressing the cig lighter with igg off and see if it gets hot

Cig lighter is ZKE controlled. Turns off after 30 minutes or if the battery is low, if memory serves. Scotch locks and cigarette lighters will give a poor reliability connection.

Great so if I connect the iPhone charger to the cigarette lighter it shall turn off after 30 mins once the car is locked? The reason I am asking is the charger has a wee LED so I don't want it to get a flat battery!

So how would you suggest that I connect the wiring while allowing the cigarette lighter to still work? Crimped connectors??

Excuse my ignorance what the hell is a ZKE contoller??
