    Hi I have a spare backup remote key fob that to my knowledge has hardly been used [ I am the 3rd. owner ]do I need to use this key every so often to keep it charged in case I need to use it at some time !

    No, there will be a battery in the key. No charging required

    If you need to change the battery, remove the blade and look at the top. You should see a groove at the top where you can get your fingernails in and pop out a little cover off the rear of the key. This will reveal the battery

    There is no batterysealed unit unless car has comfort access, key charges via ring when key is inserted into barrel. Would suggest using key to charge key. To tell if car has comfort access on door handle will be 3 small lines if no lines not comfort access but very rare on 1series.

    Learning something new, I thought comfort access was standard on these?
