    Hello everyone,
I hope I`m posting this in the correct forum.
I have just purchased a 118i 2.0 sport from an auction.I got a great deal for a 05 low mileage car.
The 1 problem is the clocks keep losing power every couple of seconds. The dashboard keeps lighting up like a christmas tree dcs/dts/engine management/seatbelt(although I`m wearing it) and the abs. They go off for a second then when the power loss occurs everything lights up again.
I took it into my normal local garage, who checked the battery and cables and other electrical equipment, they then called in an auto electrician. He specified the problem was the clocks.
I`m taking the car to a local dealer when I can afford it.Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be and the price of a repair is?

I would have a word with BBA Reman. They overhaul things like instrument panels. The dealer will just want to sell you a new one - I shudder to think how much that will cost.

The car runs and drives perfect.I`ll look into the bba reman overhaul.
I`ve also since noticed the car has only been driven for 45 miles since it`s last M.O.T which was nine months ago.Ive checked back through the previous M.o.t`s and everything seems in order. The car seems to have been stood for a while due to the green dirt which has gathered in the petrol flap/around the inside edges of the rear door.

i have the exact same problem with my e87 116i 2004 it has only 49000 miles and has been sitting undriven for a good while and now dashboard lights up every warning icon and speedo loses power every few seconds and all ectrics go off do you know what the costs of replacing the clocks are as i have seen many replacement clocks on ebay from reputable garages for around £60 or £70. also what do you do about mileage adjustment or is this done automatically during the clock change

Only a (slightly hooky?) 'specialist' will be able to adjust the mileage of a secondhand instrument cluster, while not causing the manipulation dot to become illuminated. A new cluster will automatically assume the vehicle mileage (stored elsewhere too) when it is correctly coded and programmed.
