Hi All, I have a E61 525d touring 2005, can you please help with my problem, it started off by my remote key fob intermittently not unlocking and locking the doors, then progressed to not working at all. I tried the spare which also did not work, I was told it was probably the keys at fault so I ordered a new key, £100 later I tried programming it (shutting doors, turn ignition to position 1 then back again, remove key and hold down unlock while pressing lock button three times) no joy.

Someone told me it would probably be water damage to the FM/AM amplifier which is located under the rear boot spoiler, I stripped it down and found the rear window washer pipe was disconnected on a joint, I was convinced that it was this which was causing my problems. £160 for a new Amplifier later and I fitted it, tried programming all three keys again, I still can not get my key fobs working.

Because I have replaced the amplifier with a new one, is there something else I need to do, (code the amplifier or something)?

    Can you please help?

    Scott.

I think I know your problem? Does your rear Jet washer still work? If it does not work basically the water pipe becomes detached/split from the water rear jet washer water pipe this then pisses into your "diversity Antenna" which sits under the rear spolier. The atenna is used for Remote locking and your radio stations. If you do a search on removing the rear spoiler you will find a guide. Its only ten minutes once removed you can disconnected the diversity Antenna open it up and with any look you might be able to salvage it by completely drying it and the box it sits in reconnecting and then retry.

I'd be interested to know how you got on.

Don't forget to check the wiring loom at the hinge, the receiver may be picking up and sending the signal but if that is not getting to the General module because of a broken wire then it won't activate the locks

I have the exact same problem. I took the car to BMW and they plugged it in only to tell me that the wiring loom in the rear tailgate had cracked and snapped. The cables that snapped went to the diversity module that respondes to the keys demands. I have stripped it down myself as wasn't going to pay the £760 BMW wanted to do the repair and followed online instructions on how to repair these broken cables... Can anyone recommend that repairing the loom wires will be sufficient? A very frustrated e61 owner.

So i have the same issue, no RDS and now the key buttons dont work. So ive taken off those silly metal guides from the rear glass tailgate and today i stripped the first loom back through the drivers side speaker. 4 broken wires. Soldered them and lengthened them, no change to the situation but i'll strip the next one done and im sure i'll find the same again. The diversity unit on my car was dry but is there anyway of testing it? I think i read somewhere that if you get interference on the radio when you put the rear demister on then that means it is working, is that correct does anyone know?

Pure pain of a job BTW!!
