I have recently purchased the above vehicle. I have noticed that upon driving the vehicle the doors automatically lock. When you stop and turn the engine off the doors are still locked and you have to press the unlock button on the key fob.

Is this a fault and if so do you know how to retrify this?

It may well have had the module programmed to do this, any good BMW specialist or main dealer will be able to change the settings for you

    Anti hijack mode IIRC

They unlock when you turn the ignition off and when you pull the handle correct???

Thats correct when you turn the ignition off and operate the handle it unlocks but only the door you tull the handle on, so all passengers have to pull the handle to open. Likewise if you want to then open the boot you have to unlock on the remote.

    Is this anti-hijack?

    regards

That's how "Drive away locking" works on the E46, there is no automatic door unlock as there is on the E60 when you turn the ignition off.

As said by everyone above, this is drive away locking feature when you travel above 5mph. I have this feature enabled on both the 3 series and 1 Series. I have to unlock the doors manually on the older 3 series by pressing the centre console button, but the newer 1 series unlocks automatically when I remove the key from the ignition port.
