    Hi,

I brought a used key fob off eBay (which uses the same frequency as my car), hoping that that I could get it reprogrammed and cut to work with my car. Went over to my local auto key locksmith place, and was told that they couldn't reprogram keys that have been already coded (wasn't a "virgin" apparently), as they have to be part coded or something. Have I been fobbed off? pardon the pun, or is this fact? If I have to buy a brand new key fob from BMW, how much would I be looking at?

Done: M Sport Kit, Angel Eyes, Tinted Rear LED Lamps, Remap, Exhaust, 130i front discs and calipers, VMR VB3 alloys, Eibach Pro-kit springs, Thermostat, Aux water pump, Rear View mirror replaced
On the to do list: iPod Integration, ICE, replace passenger side door mirror, change passenger seat heating element ... Maybe sell the car

Hi thanks for your reply, but thats not really the type of answer I was looking for as it isn't really answering my question.

Yea, It can get a bit tricky about what can and can't be done.
You can probably sync the remote part, but getting the key added into your list of valid keys might need information from the original car first.

Cheers Enda, probably easier to go buy a brand new key!

You may as well bin the key because it contains the previous vehicle's info which is not erasable.

Lol I'll either bin it, or try to find the car it belonged too
