Check the wiring from the body to the boot lid, common for the wiring to break and short out,

ive checked all this...its fine! its weird the fog only comes on when you turn on sides or mains....like there is voltage leaking to the fog from the sides or mains.....it could be a crossed wire but it wouldnt be in that boot cable it would have to be before that...or a fault in the lcm..?

Could be a power transistor shorted in the LCM.

thats my thinking....i pulled the fog light(pin 49)out of the back of the lcm....hey presto no fog light lit, so the bleed is not happening due to a short along the length of the cable from lcm to fog light, it must be happening within the lcm. Ive had it apart, i hate electronics...you cant tell if good or bad!!! so ive ordered a second hand lcm and will try it out, of course it will need a reflash....Bloody electonics....there just lights!!!!!even the interior light is 'smart' ive turned it off a dozen times it always comes back on again when i get in the car???! i had to read the manual to find out you have to press and hold to turn the lights out permenalty...

Does anyone else think they have lost the plot a little....? smg fair enough, better engines...fair enough...smarter lsd...fair enough...but 14 microchips in the lcm to control my lights!!

I was hoping you wouldn't mind helping someone across the pond while you are sorting this out. BMW never offered a rear fog on US spec E46's. I was hoping to add the functionality to my M3 convertible and while it is possible to order the in-dash switch and retrofit the bulb to a halogen lighted car, I was hoping to find a part number for the LED light. If you could include the part number for your LCM, that would be appreciated so I can compare if that part also needs replaced.

Also, is the fog light only on one side?

    Thanks in advance,

    Jon
