Looking to purchase a set of HID lights for my 330D, I see a lot of sellers on Ebay are selling with a CANBUS system which prevents any fault codes etc. appearing. Does anyone know whether I will need this for my car?

Don’t want to paying any extra if I don’t need to.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think due to your car being quite new, you will need a kit with a CANBUS system if you want to avoid your computer coming up with bulb warnings etc

Off to collect the HID lights this weekend. Still not sure whether to go for 5k or 6k bulbs yet but they should look great when fitted. I will post some pictures up of the difference soon.

Much ado over nothing ST. Remember the MoT stations don't even know anything about this yet and these so-called "changes" are just doing the rounds on interweb forums with nothing official to back them up. Also, see my last post in that thread from a realistic perspective.

TBH Rob I'm too long in the tooth to take the car to a persuadable testing station just so I can run HIDs

Agree with what you say about HIDs probably being ok behind projectors but they're not standard on my saloon,
might hold out till MOT changes are confirmed and just get some uprated halogens in the meantime

Won't take two minutes to wack the old ones back in for MOT if even required. Take the originals with you on the passenger seat and if they want the swap you can do there and then.

Hmmmm I'm obviously not used to these unscrupulous methods to pass the MOT

    Cheers Keith
