    Hi,

I am looking for a bit of help, so if anyone can help that would be great....

I have a 2004 E46 touring and the remote key fob only works some of the time when locking/unlocking the car. I am fairly certain that the problem is with the car and not the key as both keys stopped working at the same time.

I have spoken to my local dealer and they said it is most likely to be the reciever that is located in the bootlid top cover. Are these easy to access/change? Or does anyone else have any other suggestions as to what the problem might be?

    Thanks

    Merrick

I've heard of those receivers going out. They are easy to get to and replace. If yours is in the bootlid then you must have a touring as they are in the c-pillar on the 4-door and coupe.

    Here is some info. http://www.bmwgm5.com/FZV_Antenna_Amp.htm

On the touring it is above the position for the CD changer, remove the left boot cover it should be located there. As yours is a US release, it might be on the otherside - either way with scotjoh's photos it easy to spot - i thought it was an aerial signal booster until now =)

One of the guys on the E46fanatics web site sent me their FZV Antenna Amp that they suspected was bad. Sure enough when I tested it in my car it was indeed bad.

But after a bit of troubleshooting I was able to fix it and now it works great. These parts do go bad apparently and may be the cause of a lot of the "my key fob doesn't work" problems that I see on the forums.
