    Hiya All.

Please Help, I am a Newbe with Electric Window Problems on my 2004 325 M Sport Convertible.

    Problem is with both sides.

On drivers side when I flick the window switch for the windows to come up Automatically the window goes to the top then bounces back down approx 6 inches so I slowly put the window up manually, open the door and when I close it, it moves up and bounces back down again. I am currently having get out the passenger side.

On the passenger side if I hold the button to close the window it goes up bout 3/4 then starts bouncing down like the drivers side so I slowly keep flicking the button till the window gets near the top only for the glass to move up really slow and sometimes get stuck, when I do finally get it up it again sometimes bounces back down a bit.

Sorry bout rambling on specially on my 1st post but really concerned bout them not fully closing.

    Please help !!!!!

The window jumps back like that when it detects an obstruction. On the E46 saloon the obstruction detect is accomplished with a foam detect device in the window frame rubber part. Not sure about the cabrio.

First try resyncing the windows. Pull and push the switch to auto mode and hold, when the window reaches the end of it's travel, continue to hold for 6 seconds. Do this in both up and down directions. The window learns it's travel.

Next open the door and raise the window. Find and activate the switch that makes the car think the door is closed. Check that the window "inches" up and down to clear the rubber as the door opens and closes.

Next read up on how the anti-jam works. On E36 it is done with motor load detection, on E46 saloon is it done with contact detection in the seal. The E36 exibits false anit-jam activation partway through the window travel when the motor and/or regulator mechanism are worn and/or in need of grease or new window sliders.

Thanks for your help, I have tried to re-sync the windows but we still get the same problem also I have noticed that everytime I open the door it moves down a bit and when I close the door it moves back up as normal but each time I close the door it moves up a bit more then last time till the point it hits the top and moves back down.

    Hope this helps

Curious. Did you make the test using the switch in the door/doorlatch to test the inching with the door open? If so try it a few times to seeo if it exhibits the same behaviour as in post 3. And did you check if the anti-trap is done by motor load or compression sensor?

Sorry mate but I don't have a clue what you mean, did all the tests I've been told to do and it didn't fix it so it's gone to a BMW specialist garage just to let them sort it !!!!!
