    Hi All,

I have a 2004 E46 320d. I had to disconect the battery to change it and since changing the battery the car doesnt start.

The car will constantly turn over and doesnt fire, i tried spraying eazistart into the intake and this caused it to start but then cut out.

1st though was that there was an imobiliser fault as i couldnt hear the fuel pump.
I have plugged the car into a friends AutoBoss computer and it says it is unable to connect to the ECU - it lets him read instrument cluster and stereo etc.. but not ECU.

Am i right in thinking my ECU is goosed ? or is it a simple coding issue ?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Simple coding issue, you need to get your hands on BMW INPA software (lots of us have it) and re-sync the DDE with the EWS, dead simple

I'm in rainy Wiltshire, I would post a new message in the General BMW stuff forum asking for somebody with INPA and offering to pay, I am sure somebody will volunteer!

Sounds like dead DDE(ecu) or main DDE relay to me. Buy a cable £30

When i removed the main DDE relay recently and run INPA i got similar message to "unable to connect to the ECU" then i remebered i had taken the relay out.

I also had an EWS issue when i was messing around and that came back with a EWS code not "unable to connect to the ECU"

I would try changing the DDE relay first for the horn one, the main DDE relay is in the Splashproof box top right of engine bay remove cover and its the green relay that is upside down, horn relay is 1st relay on left behind glove box,

    Hi Guys,
just thought i would tell you where i am, i check all relays and fuse in engine bay - then something popped into my head to check the live power cable leading to ECU - No power
So to cut a long story short the 100amp fuse in the boot had blown, i replaced that and all is fine

    Thank you for your help
