    Hi guys,

I've done some searching but cannot find exactly the info i need!
My Key recently has been struggling to unlock the car (using the button) and also the button inside by the handbrake sometimes doesn't work too!

If its alread locked and then i press the key button it doesn't unlock and if i insert the key and twist NOTHING happens(though i can open the windows if i hold),
but on the other hand if i insert the key and lock i CAN open by pressing the button

i've been on bmwgm5.co.uk website but i dont really know what the issue is!

Could anybody tell me what might be the problem and what im expecting to pay!?

    Cheers

I cant remember if e46's have central locking units but if so this may be to fault...or maybe a relay. hopefully somebody else can shed a little light on this mate.
Em as you did before you held the key in the lock and the windows went down...do this again. Once they have went down wait 5 secs turn the key in the lock position and hold, the windows should go up. This resets it. I think you have half reset it and its not working correctly. If it still aint working then it may be your keythat needs replaceing or reprogrammed. Let us know how you get on mate.

I'd contact Colin Abraham via his website www.bmwgm5.co.uk or PM him as he's a member here at BFuk,
what he doesn't know about C/L issues isn't worth knowing, let us know how you get on mate.

Is it only started doing it more now because of the hot weather? I'd be guessing its a relay in the gm5 module

    Hi,

Yes the symptoms are very typical of the module failing. Does the key in the door work only the drivers door, or has that failed as well. The door lock is designed to be weak, so to prevent the lock being forced usins screw drivers and the like.

    Regards
