Just picked up my X5 a few days ago, but tonight something strange happened.... the key would not unlock the car at all. After several hours of trailing through the forums and trying various different methods of opening the doors, the key eventually worked with a combination of being put in the door lock, being turned hard to the left, at the same time as pressing the door opener on the key fob. Huge sigh of relief all round, but unsure what is causing this problem. The key now only works intermittently i.e. it won't lock remotely but will open the tailgate...or....it will lock remotely but will not unlock without the key actually in the lock, making me nervous that it may happen again and next time I will get a permanent lock out. The battery appears fine so could it be an electrical fault?. We were only given one key with the car, but does the key have a battery (that possibly needs replacing) or does it charge from the ignition as mentioned in other forums I have read.
Of course I will be ordering an additional key from BMW as soon as my registration documents come through but wanted to rule out something more sinister first.
Many thanks in advance for your help.
