    Hi peeps,

had my e46 330 ci sport (2003, pre facelift) a week or so, today tried to play around with the CD changer.... and it says 'no disk'... I had some Mp3's on PC, burnt them to audio CD using Nero using normal Verbatim CDR media. Do you think there is a fault with the changer? or can it not accept CDR media ? (only original CD's?)

I put in 5 cd's and you can hear that motorised sound when the unit goes in, first time round the display said 'no disc' looked at the changer and I forgot to close the slide lid/door, went back and tried CD again and it said checking or something then went to the same 'no disc'. Do i need to try and reset power to it? or maybe a CD stuck inside from previous owner? any pointers please?

    Thanks loaaaaaaads .

Might be the discs are rubbish ones,

    But first try,

Burn at the slowest possible speed 8x usually does the trick (takes longer but well worth it)
try DOA (disk at once) mode
on and another disc try TOA (track at once) mode (this mode is needed for my e38 cd changer)

Of course cycling the power on the changer is worth a shot as well but it most likely be the burn options/media.

i have had probs with the changer , the guy that owned it before me (neighbour) had an issue with discs sticking inside it ,he opened to find one stuck in there , sorted it and worked for a while but its playing up again, dont quote me on it but not all discs are the same thickness dunno if this would make a difference but you never know and as said burn at a slower speed may help no disc errors, i usually do it at the quickest speed just out of impatience may start burning slower myself

I had a similar problem with RW discs but it was the discs not the changer, try using a proper non burnt CD. Mine will play CDRs but not all types (it plays the Asda ones)

discs not the same width LOL

That is a new one and ive been working in the IT business for 6 years

Try taking it apart and fiddling with the mounting springs/re greasing the control arms.

You may also have to use some light sandpaper to brush some grip back into the rubber that holds the discs for spinning but this is pretty indepth if you have never taken a changer or cd reader apart. RW discs are also a no no in any car cd changer as they are harder to read and will tend to skip more.

Most importantly burn at 8x, think of the amount of time you will use those CD's vs the extra 1 or 2 minutes added to the one off burn time.

Yeah I was thinking of burning at a lower speed and making use of DOA/TOA, just being lazy really. The Discs are decent, i use to use verbs DVDR to backup alot of web work (php files, C#, avi, mpegs, source code etc etc) faultless performance.

I’ll give it a go over weekend, and then let you all know how I get on and if it’s resolved or not.

    Again thanks for the info.

It's not an mp3 CD, its normal audio - using mp3's but burning to Audio, call it wav files if you like..
