you need to get the fault codes read for the PDC system, could be a sensor fault. Try listening to the sensors for them clicking.

Hi i just had this problem on my bmw only owned it for 2 weeks but i didnt see it as a problem when i brought it as mine is a saloon and think they are a bit easier to reverse than coupes.I did the listening test and found one of the sensors not clicking when listening to them(car in reverse ignition on but not having the engine running).I brought a sensor off ebay £26 and it arrived this morning popped old one out that didnt click put in the new one and wooo hooo working fine now (hated the 5 second beep when everytime car was put in reverse). If i remember I read on here sometimes it can be the wiring if its a sensor near the exhaust back box.I managed to replace mine without moving the rear bumper too just the bottom trim was removed i was then able to get my hand rite up to top of the bumper where sensors were in the plastic bumper strip Took me 20 minutes tops.that was on a 330i sport saloon(sedan).Hope this helps.

Thanks Alan, your problem sounds just like mine, I'll check it out tomorrow, have you got any info on where you got the sensor on Ebay or was it just a lucky find.
