Hi I've got a 2003 e46 tourer and would like to fit cruise control, I've seen the steering wheel controls for sale and wondered how much of a job it is to fit, what else do I need? Will I need to get the main dealer to "activate" it? And will the stereo controls work aswell?
    Thanks in advance Andy

    At least...

    Steering wheel
    Control unit
    Servo thing under the bonnet
    The loom(s)

...then, yes, quite possibly you'll need to get the control unit coded. Sounds like too much grief to me.

Unless you got used to it on another car I have to say it is feature that doesn't get used very much in this country (unless you do all your driving at 3am)

Given you are in Norfolk and motorway network stops 100 miles away it seem like an awful lot of effort for something which might not get used.

Put in perspective, I drive 40,000 miles a year all over the country and use cruise may be once a month.

Maybe I'm just lazy I use the cruise on the wife's car all the time, I'll pay a visit to the stealers to see exactly what I need.

I use it all the time too! Couldn't go back to without. It's great for 30/40 limits as well as motorways.

I did the retrofit on my E46 320d 2004 about six months ago. It is quite an easy job. I got the control bit from a scrap yard I think I paid about £20-£30 for it, then I went to BMW and got the loom from there not to sure how much I paid for it but I think it was about £20 aswel. The fitting itself is quite simple you do have to splice into a few wires and connect a wire into the ecu. No coding involved for my car!

You need to have a look at realoem.com it will be under one of the retrofit sections, it will also give you a rough price I'n $.
