Have read lots of posts on this but am confused. 2000 320d Touring SE with auto air-con.

When the FSU fails does it or can it cause the blower motor to stop working all together. Had been working fine until Saturday, had some pulsing issues with the fan on and off, but now nothing. Have been advised it could be the heater control unit, at £250 + vat I want to be sure.

    Tony.

The symptoms of a failing FSU are usually speed variations of the blower fan. Have you thought about testing the blower fan itself? You need to dismantle it from the engine bay. There is also a blower relay you can check.

Finally had a chance to get to a local BMW specialist breakers and he kindly allowed me to try a replacement FSU. Fixed the issue. Seems the FSU can pack up completly just like that with little if no wanring.

Looks like I will be looking for a new place to get the car worked on in future To think I could have trusted them on the heater control!
