    Hi

With all this hot weather my 2003 E46 is suffering from the usual GM5 fault, the central locking will lock but wont open the car.

Does anyone know of anywhere who repairs the GM5 Module in the UK, preferably in the North West?

Also the doors will not unlock from inside the vehicle, have I double locked it somehow and can I remedy this so I can
at least let people into the car manually?

    Thanks in advance [/U]

Did you read the codes to confirm general module failure?

    Thanks Neal

No not yet, I can't get the ECU read untill Friday, I assume the ECU will store all the codes unless reset?

It is classic GM5 symptoms though, I've just been out now and the car's been sat in the shade for an hour or so and the central unlocking/locking works fine

Can you advise me on manually unlocking the passenger and rear doors if it happens again? We're having a heatwave afterall

I'm not sure if our GM5 units are the same Kevin, but £350+reprogramming has been quoted

I've contacted a guy in the States who can supply the relays and offers a repair service, the relays are $50 but you'll need someone to solder them
once you receive them, by all accounts its a very, very tricky job.
The repair service is $120 plus carriage out to the states, but what do you do with your motor while the unit is away for repair?
I'm still waiting for a reply from him though.
His website is HERE, have a look see

I think you can get the units from specialized breakers and they do have to be reprogrammed to suit.

I'll keep posting up my results though, oh and by the way the car locked/unlocked no problem after I left it in the shade for an hour or so.

    Regards

Do you think it would be worth while getting 1 from a breakers?
Taking into account cost of used part, reprogramming and chances of 2nd part being dud?
Sorry for all the questions but this is driving me mad as I have just spent a small fortune on discs, pads, shoes, bushes, wishbones and brake pipes.
    Thanks for the help.

Personally I'm inclined to get my GM5 fixed, that way there's no need to reprogram.
These guys are a bit closer to home, only in Germany

I'll ask about and see how much the local Indy's charge for this?
Looks like we're all in the same boat here

    Thanks steve23002

I rang these guys and it's looking like a minimum of £100 + vat + postage,
they couldn't confirm over the phone that they could fix it, just test the module and then advise me.

I can't do anything until Friday when I get the ECU read and I'm shooting down the South coast the weekend after that, I can't see me getting anything done until I get back from that trip.

I'm sure if the central locking goes again the wife wont mind climbing in through the windows, Duke's of Hazzard style

    regards

    Hello NealP ,

I finally got the ECU read yesterday, the relevant code is 29 relay for central locking, unlocking this was read by a Launch unit!
    I hope that's enough information?

    Regards
