    Hi Folks,
Just typed all this out and it didn't post so here goes again. On Saturday put my car away and the next morning it wouldn't start all lights on dashboard etc but nothing else. Battery problem I thought so took it off and put it on charge. Meantime whipped the battery of my mothers 315 compact(same battery model) and voila it started so left it at that, the next morning same scenario lights on dash but won't even try to start so I thought something has drained the battery, so got the one I charged and put it on the car started great I thought. went yesterday and the same thing again turn ignition key nothing apart from the usual lights.on the dashboard. Been out today brought a new varta battery put it on voila started straight away went into the house came back out to move the car and yes you guessed same as before nothing so it wasn't the battery after all(the guy at the motor shop tested my battery and said it seems fine) SO I am back to square one I can only guess at a sticking starter motor? If anyone could help it would make me happy .and put me out of my misery !Sorry for the long post but tried to give as much detail as possible.
    Regards
    Owdgit

To check starter, Turn the headlights on and as you turn the key get someone to see if they dim - If so yes starter is stuck. If nothing changes = solenoid.

Have you tested for battery drain and alternator output?

    Hi Rhyd330i,
Thanks for that, will try the headlight theory, but not tested for battery drain or alternator output , wouldn't know how to do that to be honest, ok on some things like putting new discs and pads on but electrical bits is a bit of a non starter(like the car) sorry couldn't help it

    Hi Rhyd330i,

Did the light test and nothing dimmed so it looks like the solenoid . Tried to find the starter today and wow it's well hidden and doesn't appear to be easy to get at will mull it over, not too keen on working under the car with only an inch to spare lol.
