I have just purchased back my E39 530D sport which I bought new then sold.

It has one issue which bugs me (Has been there since I first bought it and is still there).

When I put the lights on Auto the headlights will come on in bright sunshine (as though day running lights). Sometimes when it's dull they dont come on. I;ve been to the dealer (Its got a BMW warranty) they have re initialised the sensor and say it's "normal". Or possibly due to wiper scratch lines across the sensor window. The only thing half plausible is they say it registers UV adn IR light which then makes it decide to switch the lights on. I have a climate comfort windscreen (Original) and wonder if that may be part of the issue.

I also have a similar issue with the auto wipers in that they dont appear to work as they should i.e. light rain they sweep intermittently. Heavy rain - they sweep intermittantly until you reach approx 70 mph when they work as they should (they have never gone on fast wipe in auto mode though!)

Has anyone else had / got this problem or indeed rectified this problem (I have searched).

    Thanks all

    Ray

Have you mentioned the wiper problem to the dealers? I would have thought the speed can be adjusted.

Yes. All they can do is re initialise the sensor. Which they've done.

Never had the problem on my 02 model nor on the E60 I had.
