Hello all, I am getting really frustrated so hoping you can help.

What was an intemmittent problem is near enough all the time now. When I lock the drivers door with the key (The alarm is inoperative - maybe linked) it immediately unlocks and performs a full open (Windows down etc). As per usual it works fine off the central locking button in the centre console 100%. It is now so prevelant that I resort to a 10mm spanner in the boot to disconnect the battery when it refuses to shut...

I have googled to death and read up on a few things to try and had no luck so far, I have checked all fuses (I know of) and I have tried changing:-

    1. Ignition Switch.
    2. Fuel flap actuator/solenoid.
    3. GMIII Module

Everything works fine apart from the alarm and the central locking. On reading the codes a fault was diagnosed with the Drivers door lock solenoid however replacing that with a known good one made no difference so reverted back.

Only other thing I can think of is the drivers door module - I cannot even find the part no on realoem for that, only the passenger side and I believe it will require coding.

Anyone got any ideas or info on the drivers door module - this thing is driving me nuts.

Thanks in advance for any help....

    oh central locking my favorite.

The drivers door PM module is cunningly deguised as the switch unit with all the window switches and e.mirror controls. There it was right under your nose

I would be surprised if the fuel filler motor was a cause. It is generally only a slave and has no inputs to the system.

If I was to put money on it, I would guess that the driver side door lock unit is probably the cause of the fault.

Hi colin thanks for your reply,

LOL @ The PM module being under my nose, still saves taking the car apart to get at it - would this require coding do you know ?

Also not sure what you mean by door lock unit, do you mean the mechanism itself i.e. barrell and key set ? If poss do you have a part no or link as it may be what I try first or after (depending which is cheaper between that and the PM Module).

Thanks for the PM. I've been a bit busy lately. I've got a new toy (mit GTO!) so my eye has been off the Beemer forums.

In past experiance with E46's these kind of faults have been caused by the door lock mechanism. Does your door lock barrel work okay?

The main door lock mechanism is item 1:

    Thanks for the reply colin,

The barrel seems to function okay, does not stick etc - nothing strikes me as unusual about the way its working. Might have to give it a try as I think I am near to ruling just about everything else out - I got a PM Module to fit tomorrow courtesy of EBAY so will try that first.
