I have a 2002 330d Touring that when i bought it already had auto lights with HID bulbs fitted to the car. Up until recently the headlights were brilliant, and gave great vision in the dark, so good it was almost like main beam! Both front light now seem to have become much much dimmer and don't pick out the road ahead well at all, and it's almost like they point too low with it.
Can anyone offer any advice on a fix for this, maybe it is just degradation of the bulbs as i don't know how long they've been in the car? If a new set pf bulbs are the best starting point, any advice on which to replace them with?
    Thanks

99% is nothing to do with the bulbs
are your lights factory fitted?...if so there is an auto level feature that means you can fill the boot with heavy stuff and not dazzle oncoming traffic...sensor on the rear axle iirc...sounds like this needs checking over.
if retro fit then your headlights will just need aligning
    what i've felt,what i've known
never shined through in what i've shown.

As far as i know they are factory fit. The lights are still pretty white, but even standing in front of the car and looking at them they don't seem very bright at all?
If i was to try replacing the bulbs with a new set, can anyone recommend the best ones for this model?

Sorry, should have added that the auto leveling still seems to work, as the lights alter the height every time i start the car

Do you have headlight washers? Tried washing the lenses thoroughly?

If they don't have headlight washers then they aren't factory fit are they i thought all cars with the zenon upgrade had to have headlight washers to comply with uk law.

I would have a look at the ballasts myself. Do they start up bright when they first flick on then dim of just dim all the time?

They just seem to be dimmer all of the time than they used to be

If you don't have headlight washers then you don't have factory fitted xenons. Therefore you must either have had a xenon conversion, or you have just halogen bulbs with xenon-gas. Posting a couple of photos of your headlights and your bulbs would help a lot

Just reading this old thread with interest as I have the same dim headlight problem with my car. I did 25 mile on an unlit rural A-road the other night and it was a nightmare trying to the road ahead at any distance.

Mine has xenons but I don't have any headlight washers either, and I notice from the factory spec list that xenons don't appear on it so I guess that mine are aftermarket as well.

I'll see if I can get some pics tomorrow and maybe you guys can offer some solutions to solve the lack of brightness issue?
