Hey guys the alarm on the car keeps going off quite frequently (Every 10 -> 20 mins) The only way I can get some sleep is by pressing the lock button twice (disabling interior space protection and the motion detecting thingy). Is it the cold weather or do I need to be worried about this? Thanks

You could check all the door switches and boot/bonnet switch and remove any loose change from the centre console as I believe this can also upset the alarm too.

I have this same problem with mine. (e46 2002 325 Coupe). Has happened for months. The only way I can get it to stop is by using the actual key in the door.

The window drops the 5mm (as if the door was opening) on its own, and have found this is what triggers the alarm to go off??? Not sure if it will be the same on yours? I still haven't found out why this happens though, but must be an electrical fault. If anyone can answer my problems, would be much appreciated.

Hi daz215, I had the same problem on my E46 325i sport, It was the "Bonnet Switch". They really are a crap switch. Lift your bonnet, you'll see the switch just behind the washer resovoir, just disconnect it until you get a new one. I have had no problems since.

Hi daz215, sometimes because we are running in winter with lights on am and pm, and not doing long drives, and the cold weather knocks the battery out, also the e46 has a lot more electric bits, it does go into sleep mode after about 15 min, low battery will set off your alarm, i bet this happen at night? mighht help, summer time its go ok again, or it a new battery, but use a power pack to save codes if change batttery hop this helps.

I've just bought a 2002 Z3 and the alarm has gone off 3 times now.

It seems to be in the evenings, although its more of a bleep bleep bleem sound rather than a loud howling aftermarket alarm.

I have checked the battery and the veiwing light is green, so I know its not a low battery causing the problem.

The handbook suggests opening the car with the key and switching the ignition to point 1. Might be tempted to leave the spare in the ignition and lock the car from the outside with the steering lock on!
