hey everybody im a newbie with a problem, iv checked through threads but cant find an answer so hopefully someone can help me.

the n/s xenon headlight on my car has all of a sudden stopped working. i have changed the bulbs over and it isnt that, iv noticed a few people with similar problems and the all over assumption is the ignitor within the headlight.

is this a part i will have to buy from bmw or do you know anywhere that may stock the part?

i have a run down of how to change it over but dont know where to purchase!!

any help will be really appreciated!!

    thanks alot!!!

Are you talking about an after market HID kit?

if its an aftermarket hid kit then ebay is your best bet you can buy single ballests on there.

if its an oem hid light then there is 2 parts one built into your light and the other underneth your light, either could be at fault. your best bet there would be to try a scrapy for a single light that has broken plastics and is unselable as a light that way you will get it cheeper and have both the igniter or the ballest to try out in your light. either left or right light will do as its the same parts in both lights and are not side'd.

its the standard xenons that came on the car not aftermarket ones, its really hard to find somewhere that sells the ignitor, and i imagine it will be tricky to find a headlight with all the working parts but il give it a shot!

i am only assuming its the ignitor, i did have the engne steamed and it wasnt long after this that the problem occured :s

Number 15 is the control unit, bloody expensive!
check there is 12 volts going into the igniter, if there is it will prob be that as you have already tried the bulbs.
Might be worth trying to get one from a dismantler.
One other option is try on ebay.com, they strip alot of oem xenon headlights over there and sell the parts for retro fitters.

If yours is a 4 door it will be a faceliftso look for those. You can get second hand headlights on ebay but usaullly find the bulbs and igniters have been removed.

I very much doubt you'll get a full xenon headlight unit for less than the price of the ignitor but good luck! I'd also try swapping the ballast units over to rule that out as they are a pretty straightforward swap. The ignitor is a different story as it's a fooker to get to as you have to take the headlight to bits. I had the same problem with mine and bought one from the dealer for about £90 and got it fitted for £40. Maybe a better option than searching for a full unit for less than £90 or the other choice is to source a 2nd hand ignitor. Hope this helps
